Child Care

 

CANI is the intake agent for child care assistance for Allen, DeKalb, Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, and Whitley counties.  That means that people who are interested in applying for child care assistance in those counties must apply through CANI.

Voucher Program

The child care voucher program helps families afford quality child care. Parents must be working, going to school, or receiving job training to qualify. The Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) allows parents the opportunity to maintain employment and complete educational goals without the overwhelming financial burden of child care costs. The family must be Indiana residents within income guidelines and have a child below the age of 13. For more information call (260) 423-3546 or visit a CANI office in your community. 
 

What you will need at your appointment:

  • In order to be considered for the Child Care Voucher Program you must be currently working and/or attending school.  To determine eligibility, the following items are needed from you and your spouse and/or significant other, if applicable.  Without the following documentation you will not be seen:

    ü      Current Picture Identification (for adults)

    ü      Birth Certificates (for children)                       

    ü      Proof of residency (lease, utility bill)or this letter with envelope

    ü      Foster Care License (if applicable) as well as the Foster care per diem

    ü      Foster Care Identification Card (if applicable for all foster children

    ü      Completed Provider form (enclosed) to be completed by the childcare provider you have chosen

    Proof of a service need (working and/or attending school)

    ü      If working, 30 days income; if paid weekly the last 4 check stubs.  If paid bi-weekly, the last 2 check stubs

    ü      If attending college/university: computer generated class schedule

    ü      If attending G.E.D. classes, letterhead w/attendance records from instructor

    ü      If you have recently become employed and have not received a check, you must bring in a hire letter on company letterhead, stating hire date, rate of pay and expected work hours. 

    All sources of income

    ü      Child support print out

    ü      Social Security and/or SSI benefit letter

    ü      Current TANF benefit letter
